Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and Gurnee police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:30 a.m. Friday August 9, 2019 to a serious one-vehicle crash on Route 41 north of Kilbourne Road in unincorporated Lake County near Gurnee, authorities said Friday. Police and firefighter/paramedics on arrival discovered a 2001 Jaguar X was located in the trees, east of the roadway, with heavy damage.
A front-seat passenger in the car — a 28-year-old Beach Park man —sustained significant injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The driver was transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious injuries.
Preliminary investigation shows a 2001 Jaguar X, driven by a 41-year-old Waukegan man, was traveling northbound on Route 41, just north of Kilbourne Road, when it went off the roadway and struck at least one tree .
The Lake County coroner’s office responded to the scene, and an autopsy for the passenger is scheduled for Monday.
Crash investigators are investigating to determine whether speed and/or intoxicating substances were contributing factors to the crash. The crash is under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team. As occurs with many single-vehicle crashes, the crash occurred near a curve. The Speed Limit, according to Google Maps Street View, is 45 MPH.
