WOMAN KILLED IN BOAT CRASH WITH JETTY

Chicago police, firefighters, divers and paramedics responded about 2:10 AM Thursday July 11, 2019 to a report of a capsized boat in Lake Michigan near 2200 North Lake Shore Drive Chicago, Il. Police, firefighters, divers and paramedics received a report that a flat boat with no sail was capsized with three victims overboard. One female victim was reported missing among the three people initially reported as overboard in the water. An EMS Plan 1 was activated about 2:20 a.m. The boat was reported to have capsized after it was northbound from Navy Pier.

UPDATE: A 28 year-old woman was transported to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, after a boat crashed into an obstruction or water jetty in Lake Michigan. Two other victims (a man and woman) on the boat survived; and at least one was also transported to Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Jason Loch, of the Chicago Fire Department Marine Unit, warned that the elevated water level in Lake Michigan makes it difficult for boaters to see submerged obstructions in Lake Michigan — especially at night.

Two victims were removed from the water by about 2:34 a.m.. One person was being transported Code Red to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, and one person was a “medical refusal” at about 2:35 a.m. The Dive Team was in the water to search for the third victim at 2:35 a.m. but it was initially not known what time they entered the water.

Divers made contact with the third victim at about 2:42 a.m. The third victim was treated for life-threatening injuries and immediately transferred to Chicago Fire Department Ambulance 53 at a Belmont Harbor dock. Engine 78’s crew was dispatched to Belmont Harbor to assist with Advanced Life Support, and accompanied the ambulance crew for transport of the third victim to Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

The initial information in this article was an early report published before any information was confirmed or released by police or fire authorities.
