Leonid & Friends sampler USA Tour January 2019 with Chicago’s founding member Danny Seraphine and powerful horns — notice the Chicago sports attire.

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and pioneering jazz-rock drummer Danny Seraphine is a founding member of the legendary band Chicago, which with over 130 million albums sold, has become one of the world’s biggest and most beloved rock and roll bands. He is now coming to the Arcada in St Charles with his new band, CTA (California Transit Authority). The Chicago Transit Authority forbade Chicago from using their name years ago in the 1960s.

“When you go see CTA, it’s like seeing Chicago on steroids. The Chicago songbook is really enduring, it’s timeless because it’s such great music based on great musicianship, craftsmanship and the pride we put into all 19 albums. [CTA] brings a lot of power to those songs.”

— Danny Seraphine

Joining Danny will be the Russian break-out group Leonid & Friends. In just three short years, Leonid & Friends has blown the minds of legions of fans with their uncanny ability to capture the spirit, musicality and fire of American supergroup Chicago!

Daniel Peter Seraphine was born in Chicago and lived with his family in the Dunning neighborhood on Chicago’s northwest side. Seraphine started playing drums at the age of nine while attending St. Priscilla Catholic grade school. When he was 15 years old, Seraphine withdrew from Steinmetz High School.

ABOUT LENOID & FRIENDS …

Seraphine studied privately with famed percussionist Bob Tilles at DePaul University, where future members of Chicago were also studying. Seraphine cites his influences as Buddy Rich, Tony Williams, Elvin Jones, Grady Tate, Ringo Starr, Mitch Mitchell, and Hal Blaine.

Early in 1967, Seraphine approached his two friends Walter Parazaider, who played saxophone and woodwinds; and Terry Kath, who switched over from bass guitar to guitar; about leaving the cover band and starting a new supergroup with a powerful horn section. Guitar was Kath’s first love, and he would be considered one of the all-time greatest guitarists. By the way, Terry Kath’s brother Rodney Kath would later serve as police chief for the Village of Arlington Heights, Illinois — a northwest suburb of Chicago. After the addition of Lee Loughnane on trumpet, James Pankow on trombone, Robert Lamm on keyboards and Peter Cetera on bass, the band began performing initially as a cover band called The Big Thing (sometimes called The Big Sound), before settling on Chicago Transit Authority. However, legal action to cease and desist using the name was was demanded by the City of Chicago’s transportation service, known as the Chicago Transit Authority (now CTA). The future superstar band Chicago Transit Authority shortened their name to ‘Chicago’ and the rest his history. Chicago became one of the longest-running and most successful rock groups in history, and one of the world’s best-selling rock groups of all time, selling more than 100 million records. In 1971, Chicago was the first rock act to sell out Nw York’s Carnegie Hall for a week.

Chicago has sold over 40 million units in the U.S., with 23 gold, 18 platinum, and eight multi-platinum albums.

Chicago had five consecutive number-one albums on the Billboard 200and 20 top-ten singles on the Billboard Hot 100.

Chicago, in 1974, the had seven albums, its entire catalog at the time, on the Billboard 200 simultaneously.

Chicago was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016

Seraphine played with Chicago until 1990, and has been ranked by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the top 100 drummers of all time.

In early 2006, Danny Seraphine debuted a new band, known as California Transit Authority (CTA), featuring himself on drums, Marc Bonilla on lead guitar, Mick Mahan on bass guitar, Ed Roth and Peter Fish on keyboards, Mike Wallace on guitar, and Tower of Power singer Larry Braggs on vocals.
