Inverness police officers and Barrington Countryside firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:58 a.m. Saturday May 18, 2019 to a report of an injured 13-year-old boy at a house in the block of 1100 Glencrest Drive in Inverness.

At approximately 5:00 a.m., the Lake County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by Inverness Police Officers regarding the injured 13-year-old boy after he had been transported by Barrington Countryside firefighter/paramedics from the home in Inverness to St. Alexius Hospital in Hoffman Estates.

Further investigation by police revealed the boy was likely the victim of a hit-and-run traffic crash which occurred on Route 59, south of Route 22, in Cuba Township — about 5 miles from his home. Preliminary investigation determined the boy was riding his bicycle on Route 59 (Hough Road), when he was struck by an unknown vehicle between approximately 3:00 a.m. and 3:50 a.m. Saturday May 18th, 2019. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office says that an unknown person then provided the boy a ride to his Inverness home. The boy’s parents woke up, found the boy seriously injured and called 911.

Shortly after arriving at St. Alexius Hospital, the boy was transferred to Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago due to the extent of his injuries.

Evidence of the hit-and-run crash was recovered at the scene on Route 59 south of Route 22. The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit. The Speed Limit on Route 59 is 50 MPH, according to a Google Street View image captured in October 2018.

Anyone citizens with information about this crash are urged to call the Lake County Sheriff’s Office at 847-549-5200 or Lake County CrimeStoppers at 847-662-2222.
