Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded about 11:00 a.m. on Saturday March 2, 2019 to the area of Peterson Road and Route 137, Libertyville Township, for a traffic crash with injuries.
The driver of a Mazda 6 involved the crash was transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was subsequently pronounced deceased. The driver of a Toyota Sienna and an 8-year-old passenger in the Toyota Sienna were also transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center, where they were treated for minor injuries and released.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, preliminary investigation shows that a 2013 Mazda 6, driven by a 21-year-old of Waukegan, was traveling westbound on Peterson Road, just west of Route 137. For an unknown reason, the Mazda 6 crossed the concrete/grass median and entered the eastbound lanes of traffic. The Mazda 6 was struck by an eastbound 2011 Toyota Sienna, driven by a 45-year-old woman of Johnsburg.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office scheduled an autopsy for the 21-year-old on Monday. The identity of the 21-year-old male was not initially released.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit is investigating the crash. The Speed Limit in the area is 50MPH.
