Fire in Commercial Office Building on Colfax St Near Quentin Rd, Palatine

Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics responded at 3:53 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2018, to the report of a burning odor inside the commercial office building at 707 West Colfax St. in Palatine. The first Palatine Fire Department crews arrived on the scene at 3:57 p.m. and reported light smoke from a first floor tenant space. The first fire companies made entry into the unit to find a fire burning inside the unit. Additional crews pulled a hose line and made an aggressive interior fire attack, while other firefighters stretched a supply line and connected to a fire hydrant. Still, other firefighters searched the smoke-charged building for any trapped occupants, forcing entry into multiple tenant spaces in the 2-story building. The fire was declared under control at 4:11 p.m. Firefighters continued to ventilate smoke and gases and perform salvage and overhaul activities.

No civilians or firefighters were injured in the fire, which left one unit uninhabitable. Damage estimates are not available at the time of the press release from Palatine Fire Department. The fire is under investigation by Palatine Fire Department investigators.

The fire was fought by 22 firefighters, staffing three engines, two ladder trucks, one rescue squad and three ambulances which responded to the scene along with three command officers and one Fire Investigator. Units from the Palatine Rural Fire Department were among the initial responders to the scene as part of an automatic aid agreement. During the incident, a unit from the Long Grove Fire Department stood by in a Palatine fire station to provide coverage for any additional calls. Palatine Police officers assisted at the scene with traffic and crowd control.
