Video: Scene after four-car rollover crash near Northpoint Shopping Center with one injured Monday evening, August 29, 2011.

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:02 p.m. Monday to a four-car crash at Rand Road at the Northpoint entrance, just east of Arlington Heights Road. Rescuers also received a report that smoke was scene coming from a minivan, but it was believed to be smoke from air bag deployment.

A person in a Honda Fit was trapped in his vehicle and injured. He was extricated by 6:15 p.m. and was transported to Northwest Community Hospital. The Honda Fit was broadsided on the passenger side and was resting on the passenger side. Vehicles waiting at the stoplight to leave the shopping center were hit after the first impact.

Three other vehicles involved in the crash were a deep red GMC Arcadia, which was waiting at the light; a tan Oldsmobile Silhouette; and a silver Toyota Camry. A pickup truck waiting at the shopping center driveway was also showered with glass from the crash, and required a washdown by a firefighter’s hose line.

It appears the Camry and the Arcadia were waiting at the light when the Olds and the Honda crashed.

  1. I was in the car directly behind the Honda Fit and it all happened so suddenly. I heard a crash and looked up and it was like a scene from transformers and the blue Honda was in the air and landed on a car waiting to turn left onto Rand Road. I assisted all parties on the scene until police arrived. I am amazed that the injuries were not more sever and or fatal. I am thankful that I was not 3 seconds sooner for my vehicle is smaller than a Honda Fit

A very quick response time from the AHPD and AHFD. The 911 operator should be commended as well as they were asking questions to the caller assisting to person trapped in the Honda that I am sure was relayed to responding units
