Arlington Heights Police Accreditation Process Invites Public and Community Input Starting Sunday

The Arlington Heights Police Department is scheduled for an on-site assessment as part of a program to achieve re-accreditation by verifying it meets professional standards.

Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®), the re-accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.

A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®), will arrive on August 27, 2011 to examine all aspects of the Arlington Heights Police Department’s policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services, according to Police Chief Gerald S. Mourning.

Verification by the team that Arlington Heights meets the Commission’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain re-accreditation — a highly prized recognition of public safety professional excellence, according to Police Chief Gerald S. Mourning.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session on Monday, August 29, 2011 beginning at 6:00 p.m. The session will be conducted in the Buechner Room at Arlington Heights Village Hall located at 33 S. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, Illinois 60005.

Agency employees and the public are also invited to offer comments by calling (847) 368-5558 on Sunday, August 28, 2011 between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Comments will be taken by the Assessment Team.

Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. A copy of the Standards is available for inspection at the Arlington Heights Police Department. Inquiries should be directed to Sergeant Mark Recker at (847) 368-5349.

Anyone wishing to submit written comments about the Arlington Heights Police Department’s ability to comply with the standards for accreditation may send them to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Blvd., Suite 320, Gainesville, Virginia, 20155, or www.calea.org.
