An Arlington Heights man was fined $500 after he turned in $17,000, but submitted a false report about where he found the money.
Robert Adams, 54, of Arlington Heights was cited today and fined $500 for filing a false report with the Rolling Meadows Police Department. The information regarding the location was falsified. The money was not found near a Chase ATM next to Señor Taco in Rolling Meadows, where Adams said he picked up a bag full of money next to a Reflejos newspaper box. The money was found by Robert Adams near a Walgreens ATM in Midlothian, where an armored car driver misplaced a bag full of money. Investigators viewed video surveillance at the ATM near the Midlothian Walgreens and determined that the money was found by Adams at the Midlothian location.
In actuality, on the evening of June 6, Adams found a Chase Bank bag full of cash totaling over $17,000 near a Walgreens ATM in Midlothian. He then drove to Rolling Meadows and turned in the bag at a Chase Bank. He originally told police he found the bag of cash outside the Reflejos newspaper stand in Rolling Meadows.
