VIDEO: Palatine firefighters got on the roof quickly and cut a hole in the roof to ventilate a house on North Fremont Street while firefighters inside hit the fire with a hose line.

Almost simultaneously, Palatine Fire Department and police officers responded to two fires apparently caused by very early morning lightning strikes. The first call for help came at about 5:20 a.m. Thursday from a homeowner in the 200 block of South Clyde Avenue. The second call for help also came in about 5:20 a.m. Thursday in the 300 block of North Fremont Street.

Both fires had flames showing near the roof when firefighters and police arrived. Arlington Heights firefighters assisted Palatine firefighters for a short time at the fire on North Fremont Street.

Both houses were saved by quick action on the outside and with an interior attack. The house fire at the Fremont address required firefighters to ventilate the roof. Firefighters on the inside knocked the fire with a hose line that they pulled to the upper floor.
