15-Year-Old Accused of Stabbing a Rival Gang Member He Didn’t Even Know

Arlington Heights police and Buffalo Grove police responded about 1:20 p.m. Thursday to a report of a stabbing at McDonald’s, 15 East Dundee Road. Police responded to a report that three male Hispanics fled westbound on Dundee Road in a white vehicle, and that the victim was transported to Northwest Community Hospital in a silver vehicle. Police confirmed that a victim arrived in a personal vehicle at Northwest Community Hospital. Arlington Heights police also responded to the emergency department at Northwest Community Hospital. The victim is apparently a 25-year-old rival gang member that did not personally know his attacker. He was later classified in stable condition.

An alert police officer heading eastbound on Dundee Road near Ridge Avenue noticed a white Nissan with three male/Hispanics in the vehicle westbound on Dundee Road. The police officer made a U-turn and the driver of the white Nissan pulled over to the shoulder just west of Kennicott Avenue in front of the Nissan dealership. Arlington Heights police and Buffalo Grove police had three in custody by 1:25 p.m.

Police and detectives from Arlington Heights and Buffalo Grove responded to both locations. At the McDonald’s police were checking the property for evidence. No word was available if the weapon was found. A Dean of Students from Buffalo Grove High School also responded to the McDonald’s across Dundee Road.

At least one of the suspects was immediately transported to Arlington Heights Police Department Headquarters. After investigation, Arlington Heights police charged a 15-year-old freshman Buffalo Grove High School student from Wheeling with attempted murder after police say he chased and stabbed the 25-year-old rival gang member outside of the McDonald’s. Before the stabbing, the teen and a male acquaintance, were standing near the entrance of McDonald’s just before 1:20 p.m. Thursday. The two males gestured toward a rival gang member — the 25-year-old victim — that was in a car in the drive-thru lane, according to police. The 25-year-old got out of the car, and the teen chased him toward Dundee Road, where the victim stabbed him near the roadway.

The teen and two or three other males fled westbound in a white Nissan on Dundee Road and were apprehended just west of Kennicott Avenue. All occupants of the car were arrested, but the arrest charges for the other occupants of the car are not known. Their ages are also not available. No information is available concerning which occupant is shown in the video, but the subject shown is possibly NOT the male charged with attempted murder.

The teen charged with attempted was transported to the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center and is awaiting arraignment in Juvenile Court.
