5 Killed in Accidental Carbon Monoxide Poisoning at Hileah Hotel

Five young men have been found dead inside a South Florida motel from what authorities believe was carbon monoxide poisoning.

A birthday celebration for Juchen Martial turned deadly when the car they had driven — a red Kia Optima — was left running in the bottom-floor, single-car garage of the hotel. The door to an interior stairway leading to their hotel room on the second floor was opened slightly. Investigators believe the odorless gas infiltrated the room and killed the five young men.

A hotel maid saw the five males unconscious through a window of the room.

The hotel called 9-1-1, and when Hialeah police and firefighters arrived at the Hotel Presidente, 1395 SE Eighth Court, Hileah Monday afternoon, the red Kia Optima was still running in the garage.

The victims were: Juchen Martial, who turned 19 on Sunday; Evans Charles, 19; Jonas Antenor, 18; Peterson Nazon, 17; and Jean Pierre Ferdinand, 16.
