Mount Prospect police officers were monitoring a motorcycle safety awareness event on June 28, 2026, at approximately 9:11 PM, with approximately 300 motorcycles and motorcyclists that was taking place at the business at 720 West Rand Road (US-12) in Mount Prospect. At that time, a Kawasaki EX650 motorcycle and a Honda CBR600 motorcycle were traveling southeast bound on Rand Road approaching Louis Street in the curb lane. The two motorcycle operators collided with each other while attempting to turn right onto Louis Street.
NOTE: This incident was previously published as a crash that involved three motorcycles near Menards. The article here is an updated improved report, provided by the Mount Prospect Police Department, that indicates two motorcycles were involved in the crash, which injured two operators and one passenger of three total crash victims.
The driver of the Kawasaki motorcycle, a 33-year-old male from Melrose Park, was transported to Northwest Community Hospital with injuries by Mount Prospect Fire Department paramedics. The passenger on the Kawasaki motorcycle, a 21-year-old female from Naperville, was treated by Mount Prospect Fire Department paramedics on-scene for minor injuries. The driver of the Honda motorcycle, a 29-year-old male from Des Plaines, was treated by Mount Prospect Fire Department paramedics on-scene for minor injuries. All people involved in the crash were wearing motorcycle helmets at the time of the crash. Three ambulances were assigned to the scene.
The driver of the Kawasaki motorcycle was issued a citation for improper right turn at an intersection, and a citation for improper display of plate attachment.
As Mount Prospect police officers were rendering aid and securing the scene, a large group of attendees of the event rushed to the crash scene. To secure the integrity of the crash scene and manage the large group of attendees, Mount Prospect police officers called for mutual aid assistance from nearby police departments. Police officers from the Arlington Heights Police Department, the Des Plaines Police Department and the Prospect Heights Police Department responded for assistance with crowd control and traffic control. Also, fourteen Mount Prospect police officers were assigned to this scene.
All lanes of Rand Road were closed between Business Center Drive and Central Road for several hours while officers processed the crash scene, according to the Mount Prospect Police Department. Rand Road lanes were re-opened about 11:05 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 2026.
