These charges stem from an investigation into a shots fired incident that took place in the block of 1400 South Hickory Drive on June 16, 2026.
According to the Mount Prospect Police Department, on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at approximately 12:11 p.m., Mount Prospect Police Officers responded to the 1400 block of south Hickory Drive for a 911 call of shots fired. A witness relayed a Toyota SUV was traveling southbound on Hickory Drive approaching Cottonwood Lane when the front passenger lowered the window and fired multiple shots into the air from a handgun. The witness last saw the vehicle as it turned eastbound on Cottonwood Lane.
Officers arrived on scene and were unable to locate the vehicle, any property damage, or anyone injured. Several spent bullet casings were located in the roadway. Officers were able to quickly identify a possible offending vehicle using automated license plate readers (ALPR) in the area. Utilizing the ALPR system, officers were able to track that the Toyota left the area southbound and had traveled through Elk Grove Village and possibly was in Bensenville. Mount Prospect Officers notified surrounding police agencies of the Toyota and the incident.
At approximately 12:31 p.m., officers from the Bensenville Police Department located and stopped the Toyota, which was occupied by two male juveniles. Both juveniles were transported to the Mount Prospect Police Headquarters from Bensenville for further investigation. Mount Prospect police investigators were able to utilize digital and physical evidence to link both juveniles to the incident on Hickory Drive.
The 15-year-old offender was charged with one felony count of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm and one misdemeanor count of Mob Action and was transported to the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center in Chicago. The 14-year-old offender was charged with one misdemeanor count of Mob Action and released to the custody of their parent.
During the investigation, a third juvenile that was also in the Toyota during the incident was identified. The 15-year-old juvenile from Chicago turned themselves in at the Mount Prospect Police Headquarters on June 18, 2026, and was charged with one felony count of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm and one misdemeanor count of Mob Action and was transported to the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center in Chicago.
The Mount Prospect Police Department continues to investigate this incident and asks anyone who has any video footage or any information that might assist with this investigation to call the Mount Prospect Police Department Investigations Section at 847-870-5654.
