A tornado or two passed south of Kankakee and through Aroma Park southeast of Kankakee Tuesday afternoon and evening, March 10, 2026. Baseball size hail was also reported in the area.
Damage is significant near the block of 300 Oak Street in downtown Kankakee where a number of buildings were reported damaged and on fire.
There was also a report of people trapped in their homes in Aroma Park, about four miles southeast of downtown Kankakee.
Kankakee County EMA reported a tornado touch down near I-57 and Justice Way. Time estimated by radar was 6:24 p.m. (LOT)
A tornado was also reported on the ground near the Kankakee Airport about 6:27 p.m.
There were multiple reports of a tornado crossing Main Street on the north side of Hopkins Park (relayed via amateur radio) about 6:54 p.m.
Indiana state police reports tornado on the ground visible from near IN-10 and 600 West Road northeast of Hopkins park about 6:59 p.m.
Hopkins Park, Illinois is less than four miles from the Illinois border and about five miles east of Aroma Park.
