A traffic stop in Palatine Tuesday morning for multiple violations caused a violent response from a wanted suspect who had failed to appear in Champaign County Court for over four years.
A Palatine police officer on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at approximately 11:15 a.m., conducted a traffic stop in the area of Dundee Road and Rand Road after observing a driver commit multiple traffic violations. The driver was identified as Star D. Hampton, age 33, of the 400 block of W. Palatine Road, Palatine. During the stop, officers learned Hampton had two active Failure to Appear warrants out of Champaign County, both stemming from prior arrests for Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer.
During the traffic stop, Palatine police officers attempted to take Hampton into custody for the Failure to Appear warrant. Hampton became uncooperative and resisted arrest, leading to a physical struggle. During the incident, Hampton struck and kicked officers, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries to three Palatine Police officers.
Hampton was taken into custody and transported to the Palatine Police Department to the Palatine police station. The involved officers were evaluated by Palatine Fire Department paramedics and declined further medical treatment.
During the investigation, officers discovered circumstances involving the welfare of two juvenile children. Subsequently, Palatine police detectives worked with the appropriate child welfare agency to ensure the safety of the children.
Hampton has been charged with the following:
Three counts of Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer (Class 2 Felony)
Three counts of Resisting Arrest (Class A Misdemeanor)
Two counts of Endangering the Life or Health of a Child (Class A Misdemeanor)
Palatine police officers transported Hampton to a detention hearing at the Cook County Third District Courthouse in Rolling Meadows on Thursday, January 28, 2026 where she was released on the Palatine charges but remained in custody pending extradition to Champaign County.
According to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, the Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer charge goes back to December 21, 2021 when Star Doris Hampton was released on her own recognizance with a $10,000 bond. At the time, Star Doris Hampton had additional charges, including …
