Train vs Car crash at the Quincy, Illinois train station with audio; impact just after elapsed time/scrub to 1:15 (VIRTUAL RAILFAN). YouTube Tips ⓘ
Three people got out of their car that was stuck on railroad tracks in Quincy, Illinois about 1:27 a.m. Sunday, January 4, 2026. The driver stayed in the car for several minutes, but the blue Dodge Challenger Hellcat wouldn’t budge. The driver had turned left turn from westbound Wisman Lane onto an area between the two railroad tracks and drove about 120 feet between the railroad tracks until he got stuck.
The driver and his two passengers got out and tried unsuccessfully to push the vehicle off the tracks. Unfortunately, nobody in the car noticed or thought to call 9-1-1 or the emergency phone number that is posted at the railroad crossing.
Then there’s a train horn at about 1:34 a.m.
The driver gets back in the car to give it one last try to move the car. He revs the engine, but still the car won’t budge. At one point, a female screams for the driver to get out, but she also wants him to get her shoes.
He gets out, and then the train, pulled by three BNSF locomotives, hits and drags the car past the Quincy Amtrak train station. Impact occurs at about 1:35 a.m. The train comes to a stop after the three locomotives and six oil tanker cars pass the platform.
No one was injured in the crash. The driver and passengers all escaped to safety at the Quincy, IL Amtrak train station platform.
The driver was charged with DUI.
