A Schaumburg man, Paul Klein, age 51, was pronounced dead after a single-vehicle crash in which he likely lost consciousness before the crash. Police, firefighters and paramedics from Elk Grove Village responded about 11:52 a.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2025 to a report of a crash into a fire plug on Biesterfield Road east of Meacham Road in Elk Grove Village.
The Elk Grove police, firefighters and paramedics discovered a Schaumburg man that was unconscious in the vehicle. According to the Elk Grove Village Police Department, two witnesses independently reported the man was possibly unconscious before his vehicle crossed the opposite lanes of Biesterfield Road, and struck a fire hydrant on the opposite side of Biesterfield Road in Elk Grove Village.
Elk Grove Village Fire Department paramedics transported the man to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as Paul Klein, age 51. The time of his death was recorded as 12:26 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2025, but results of the autopsy are pending.
Police said the driver of a 2008 silver Pontiac Vibe was traveling eastbound on Biesterfield Road when his vehicle crossed into the westbound lanes and struck a fire hydrant in the parkway on the north side of Biesterfield Road, east of Meacham Road.
Paul Klein was the sole occupant in the Pontiac Vibe.
Westbound Biesterfield Road was closed between Columbia Drive and Home Avenue for about two hours Tuesday as police gathered evidence and investigated the crash. The investigation is ongoing following the on-scene investigation.
