American Legion Post 208 Arlington Heights hosts US Navy recruits for Thanksgiving (CARDINAL NEWS). YouTube Tips ⓘ
For the 26th year, American Legion Post 208 and the Village of Arlington Heights hosted US Navy sailors for Thanksgiving Day. On Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2025, American Legion Post 208 hosted these young men and women, are doing their US Navy Basic Training at the Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois. The US Navy sailor cadets are in eight weeks of Basic Training. They have not had contact with the outside world for a long time — no phones, no internet, no computers, no video games, no TV, no newspapers. They’re off the grid during Basic Training. They cannot go home for the Thanksgiving holiday, which is tough for an 18 to 19 year-old during their first time away from home. American Legion Post 208 and many other organizations around Chicagoland gave these wonderful young people the best Thanksgiving possible (apart from home). Sailors received a full Thanksgiving dinner, free phones to call home all day, desserts and treats galore —including entertainment, video games, TV, and lots of friendship. All of these amenities were made possible by volunteers from American Legion Post 208 and the community. Aiticle includes interview with two superb senior cadets, Wallace and Needham.
