There have been no charges and therefore no court appearance this week for an individual, who was arrested immediately after being accused of battering another motorist, who was rendered unconscious and ultimately transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. Almost three days after the violence occurred — apparently related to a road rage incident — the Arlington Heights Police Department under the authority of Police Chief Nicholas Pecora did not release any information about the incident, and did not use official social media to ask or urge any witnesses to come forward if they have information about what led up to the apparent road rage incident, or describe any details, such as how long the victim was battered after he was down on the ground. It is also unknown whether there was any video that captured the incident that was collected as evidence by investigators. It is also unknown whether third party any third party witness provided any statements to the Arlington Heights Police Department.
On Friday morning, August 8, 2025, the public does not know if the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and rejected the charges, or if some circumstances prevented the case from being presented by the Arlington Heights Police Department to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. We are aware that the hospitalized battery victim was unresponsive, and was initially unable to provide a statement to investigators, while witnesses reported observing the motorcyclist communicating with police officers. The condition of the victim on Friday morning, August 8, 2025 is unknown.
There has been no official confirmation from the Village of Arlington Heights that a violent road rage interaction occurred in downtown Arlington Heights.
There was also no leadership or guidance provided by the Arlington Heights Police Department under the authority of Police Chief Nicholas Pecora that provided community safety tips regarding the importance of avoiding road rage, nor were there any safety tips on how to avoid becoming involved in a road rage incident on the official social media accounts of the Arlington Heights Police Department.

What is Road Rage?
Road Rage is driving a vehicle in an aggressive manner that could endanger the safety or property of another driver, motorcyclist, bicyclist, or pedestrian.

Illegally driving on the shoulder of the road (emergency lane), in a ditch/median, or on sidewalk
Operating the vehicle in an erratic, reckless, careless, or negligent manner
Failure to yield right of way
Failure to obey traffic laws, signs, and devices
Failure to signal
Failure to yield to emergency personnel and construction zone speed limits
Racing
Cutting off another vehicle/weaving
Slamming on brakes in front of a tailgater
Forcing a driver off the road
Rude hand or facial gestures at other drivers
Yelling/cursing
Repeatedly honking the horn
Repeatedly flashing the headlights
Throwing objects
Ramming/sideswiping
The dangers of Road Rage behavior:
Potential crash involving
Vehicle damage
Injuries, potentially life-threatening
Death – drivers, passengers, others
Shooting resulting in a crash, injury, or death
If you encounter an angry or aggressive motorist:
Keep your vehicle doors locked and windows up
Don’t follow too closely
Do not underestimate a driver’s potential for aggression
If you are in the left lane and someone wants to pass, move to your right and allow them to pass
When merging, make sure you have plenty of room and use your turn signal
If someone cuts you off, slow down and give them room to merge into your lane
If a speeding driver is tailgating you, safely change lanes when able
Making gestures might anger the other driver; create distance and avoid confrontation
If another driver is acting angry, don’t make eye contact
Do not chase the aggressive driver. If possible, have a passenger take a video and/or make a note of the vehicle’s description (color, spoiler or other accessories, stickers, license number, damage)
Motorists who are being followed by an aggressive driver should drive to the nearest police department when possible, or drive to a well-lit, populated area and call 911

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 2:22 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2025 to a report of a vehicle and pedestrian accident on Northwest Highway just west of Vail Avenue near the Mobil gas station in Arlington Heights, that was actually an apparent road rage incident involving a motorist in a sedan and motorcyclist. An employee inside the gas station said he reported the crash, but was not aware of the exact circumstances in their driveway to Northwest Highway at the southwest corner of the gas station property. He was unaware from his position inside the gas station that a male victim was seriously injured on the driveway near Northwest Highway. Witnesses in the area weren’t sure whether there was a crash or not, but indicated there may have been a road rage beating involving a white male driving an older model Mercedes, and a male black driving a motorcycle. Witnesses who happened to be in downtown Arlington Heights told CARDINAL NEWS there was some type of physical altercation or assault that involved a male black adult kicking or stomping on the older male white victim’s head.
A witness said the older man was bleeding, unresponsive on the ground, and gasping for air. He was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
The male black was arrested, and transported away from the scene — toward the Arlington Heights police station.
The older man’s Mercedes and the motorcycle were both towed from the scene.
A crime scene perimeter was set up with yellow crime scene tape. Police continued working at the scene, investigating and taking pictures until about 4:35 p.m. Tuesday.

Since Arlington Heights announced on Facebook on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 being named the 12th safest place to live in the United States, a man was shot in the face in unincorporated Arlington Heights about 3:15 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2025 while offenders were apparently attempting to steal his Chevy Corvette parked on his driveway, and today this apparent violent road rage incident occurred in a period of nine days since the safe town announcement. The shooting was in an unincorporated Arlington Heights neighborhood about three blocks west of the Village of Arlington Heights border, and just west of the Lake Terramere neighborhood in Arlington Heights.
