Arlington Heights and Lake County Forest Preserve police officers and area firefighters were searching Tuesday afternoon for a missing man, who was last seen about 11:20 p.m. Monday, June 23, 2025 near the intersection of Arlington Heights Road and Lake Cook Road near the border of Arlington Heights and Buffalo Grove. Police are also seeking the public’s help to located the missing person. Buffalo Grove police officers and Cook County Sheriff’s deputies were also on the scene.

CARDINAL NEWS Missing Arlington Heights Man Found Safe After Extensive Search at Buffalo Creek
The Arlington Heights Police Department released the identity of the missing man as Adam Gerber, age 54, a resident of Arlington Heights. There was evidence or circumstances that indicate Adam Gerber may have entered the water just east of the Buffalo Creek dam in the Buffalo Creek Forest Preserve. The Buffalo Creek dam is just west of Arlington Heights Road and about 2000 feet north of Lake Cook Road.

According to the Arlington Heights Police Department, a police K-9 track from Mr. Gerber’s vehicle to the Buffalo Creek forest preserve direct the the K-9 track to one of the numerous bodies of water in the area.
Mr. Gerber is still considered missing. The Arlington Heights Police Department is continuing the search and investigation into Mr. Gerber’s whereabouts.The Arlington Heights Police Department is also asking residents and businesses in the area of Lake Cook Road and Arlington Heights Road to check surveillance cameras for anyone matching Mr. Gerber’s description between late evening of Monday, June 23rd and early morning of Tuesday, June 24th. There was a relatively large or extraordinarily large police presence at the scene for a water recover mission, and the Arlington Heights Police Department command van was assigned to a staging area near in a vacant shopping center east of the search area in the water near the dam. The Arlington Heights Police Department social media release is likely missing several details discovered in the investigation. For example, Adam Gerber’s vehicle was not described, and the precise location that the vehicle was found was not disclosed. Police also did not release who last saw Adam Gerber at around 11:20 p.m. on Monday, June 24, 2025.
A MABAS Division 3 (Cook County and Lake County) Box Alarm #55DR was activated by Long Grove Fire Protection District at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday for SONAR technicians for a water recovery. Buffalo Creek Forest Preserve is located within the Long Fire Protection District.
MABAS Division 4 SONAR Techs (Lake County) were assigned to the Long Grove water search scene at 3:00 p.m.
SONAR techs were assigned to the water recovery operation. Divers were not assigned to the incident. Divers are usually assigned when SONAR techs discover an item or body that needs to be recovered from the water.
The MABAS Box Alarm was struck out at 5:19 p.m. However, there was no indication or update from the Arlington Heights Police Department regarding any search results.
Adam Gerber is listed as an Adjunct Associate Professor, Master Program in Computer Science at the University of Chicago.
