A civil rights complaint was filed with the US Department of Education by Awake Illinois, alleging a violation of Title IX, which prohibits sex-based discrimination.
Awake Illinois complaint to the US Department of Education …
In accordance with the discrimination complaint resolution process of the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (“OCR”), we are filing this federal civil rights complaint against the Naperville 203 Community Unit School District (“D203”) for engaging in sex-based discrimination within education programs or activities that receive federal funding, in violation of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX).’
Awake Illinois is a statewide nonprofit grassroots organization dedicated to advocating for Illinois families, students, and citizens and to protecting their constitutional rights. Such rights include the right to be free from exclusion in federally funded education programs or activities based on sex discrimination, which includes students and employees not be required to share private facilities with individuals of the opposite sex as a prerequisite for involvement in a school’s educational offerings or activities. Our concern is for the nearly 2 million children being exploited by perceived Title IX violations across the state of Illinois.
We respectfully request the OCR to examine the background, policies, and actions outlined in this complaint, evaluate possible penalties for D203 as permitted under Title IX2, and formally notify the school district that non-compliance with federal regulations regarding access to private facilities in educational programs and activities will lead to the loss of federal funding. Please see our previously submitted April 6, 2025 Title IX complaint against the IL State Board of Education and Valley View School District for additional background and context.
