The Arlington Heights Police Department revealed at 4:14 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2025, the investigation of a case of criminal damage to property with an apparent explosive at Camelot Park, 904 East Brookwood Drive Arlington Heights. Police say the incident occurred sometime overnight between Friday May 9, 2025 and Saturday, May 10, 2025. Police indicated that an unknown offender or offenders criminally damaged an outdoor garbage can with an apparent explosive device. The interior of a metal garbage container located on the south side of the bridge at the park was discovered with significant damage consistent with an explosion. Arlington Heights police recovered remnants of two one gallon jugs containing gasoline from inside the garbage can.
The police department did not indicate whether there were any suspects or physical descriptions of individuals or vehicles in the area. The police department also did not indicate whether there were any immediate calls reporting the sound of an explosion.
According to reports on the Neighbors app, the crime is reported to have occurred on Friday, May 9, 2025 between 11:00 PM and 11:30 PM. The elapsed time range including the time the crime could have occurred is 00:30 (hours: minutes). One user reported hearing five large booms. Several other users reported hearing explosion or boom type noise.

The south side of the Camelot Park bridge is close to Brookwood Drive and a bike path. Single-family homes are directly across from a neighborhood of single-family homes.
