An investigation determined that polyethylene bags, rags and clothing had been flushed down the aircraft toilets and the material was stuck in the plumbing, according to Air India. Eight of the planes 12 laboratories were inoperable. The clog caused toilet water to leak into the aisle of the aircraft.
Air India reported that historically, other material, such as blankets, underwear, and diapers have been flushed down aircraft toilets.
