Cook County Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters and paramedics from Long Grove Fire Protection District responded about 5:48 p.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2025 to a report of a kitchen fire in an apartment building at 2316 West Nichols Road in unincorporated Arlington Heights.
Long Grove’s Battalion Chief on arrival reported they had a working fire involving a 3-story apartment building. Minutes later fire command reported fire on the second and third floor, and the fire department response was upgraded to MABAS Box Alarm by about 5:58 p.m.

The fire department response was upgraded to a second alarm about 20 minutes later.

Fire command reported that firefighters had three hose lines on the fire, but that they were fighting the fire from the exterior. Simultaneously, firefighters were searching interior at the opposite ends of the building on the second and third floors.
Initially, there were no confirmed reports of details on injuries or missing people, but there was an area destruction in the apartment building that could not initially be searched.

Firefighters estimated up to 30 people may have been displaced from their homes, and the American Red Cross was assigned to the scene to help find shelter for people who were displaced.

In addition to the first one or two ambulances that were dispatched to the scene. Two additional ambulances were requested about 7:00 p.m. Northfield and Wheeling were assigned.
A few minutes later four additional ambulances were requested to respond to the scene. Buffalo Grove A26, Rolling Meadows, Gurnee, and Park Ridge were assigned.

Weather was cold around 22°F, with the worst weather conditions affecting the residents who had to evacuate their building and stand out in the cold before warming buses arrived. Ice was also forming on firefighters working to extinguish the fire with water. Around 50 fire companies responded to the scene.
