Arlington Heights firefighters responded about 4:23 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 2025 to a report of a blown transformer and burning utility pole near the Burger King, 675 East Rand Road in Arlington Heights.
Firefighters on arrival found a wood utility pole burning at the top along with a transformer at the top of the pole, and another fire burning at the bottom of the pole. Firefighters stood by until a ComEd crew arrived and de-energized the pole. Firefighters then extinguished the fire, and ComEd made the repairs.
Firefighters requested ComEd to the scene. According to ComEd, a power outage associated with the damage was limited to five customers. At the scene it appeared that only two businesses were without power — Casey Automotive and Pavlis Furs. The burning pole was closest to the Burger King, but the restaurant had power.
