An Arlington Heights resident who lives near Camelot Park on the north side of Arlington Heights was arrested by the Mount Prospect Police Department in Mount Prospect Sunday, accused of shooting in the direction of two individuals who were attempting to repossess a semi-trailer.

On Sunday, January 12, 2025, Mount Prospect Police charged Michael Hrycyk, 71-years-old, of the block of 1000 East Waverly Drive in Arlington Heights, with one count of Attempted First-Degree Murder. The charge stems from the investigation of a shots fired call on Sunday, January 12, 2025, that allegedly occurred in the parking lot of 2200 South Busse Road in southern Mount Prospect. The parking lot is located near warehouses in an industrial area along Busse Road just north of Interstate 90.

Mount Prospect police officers responded about 5:35 p.m. Sunday, January 12, 2025 to a report of shots fired in the parking lot of 2200 South Busse Road in Mount Prospect. Upon arrival, officers located two individuals, who told police they were in the process of repossessing a semi-trailer, when an unknown person fired a gun at their vehicle. Mount Prospect police officers were quickly able to locate the offender, who was inside his parked truck in the same parking lot. Police officers identified the suspected shooter as Michael Hrycyk and later located a handgun in his truck. Mount Prospect police officers located a shell casing on scene, and a bullet hole in the victim’s truck.

According to the Mount Prospect Police Department, Hrycyk stated he believed the semi-trailer was being stolen, so he fired one shot towards the truck, attempting to shoot the driver and stop the theft.

Hrycyk was arrested by Mount Prospect police officers; and the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved one felony charge of Attempted First Degree Murder. Hrycyk was taken to a detention hearing on January 14, 2025, where he was released and placed on electronic monitoring. Hrycyk is scheduled to appear next in court on February 14, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. in Room 108 of the 3rd District Cook County Courthouse in Rolling Meadows.
