 ADDED DETAILS …

Three offenders attempted to steal a Ferrari and Range Rover while the family was sleeping, but awakened, by the sound of the Ferrari engine running.

Second time in two years home has been targeted, and a vehicle was stolen the first time.

Access to a home office front door entrance occurred after the homeowner forgot to lock the door. Vehicle keys (or FOBs?) were stolen in the attempt to steal the vehicles, and both vehicles were started. The vehicles were not taken and/or one of them was taken and immediately recovered. One vehicle was located behind a locked gate, which the offenders had trouble defeating.

A garage window was also broken to gain access to a Ferrari, which was driven out of the garage

Suspects were wearing masks, and seemed well-organized, according to the homeowner.

The homeowner warned offenders to stop, and warned that he would shoot. At least one offender fired a weapon first, and the homeowner returned fire with at least seven shots.

The sound of the gunshots were captured by a neighbors ring cam

Bullet holes: A tree (struck once), a fence (struck four times) and a vehicle were struck by gunfire.

Winnetka Police Department did not initially release a description of the suspects.

Two offenders fled the scene in an unknown, getaway vehicle, and one offender fled the area on foot.

According to the Winnetka Police Department, there was heavy police presence in the area this morning, and Sheridan Road was closed between Willow Road and Ash Street. On Monday afternoon, there still may be traffic delays on Sheridan Road in the area.

Winnetka police stated that a description of the suspect will follow after further investigation of the incident.

The Winnetka Police Department indicated that the incident is believed to be an isolated event.

The Memorial Day Parade and Observance proceeded as scheduled with ample police and security presence for the safety of all participants, according to the Winnetka Police Department.
