The gunshot victim relocated outside to the parking lot on the west side of the hotel building.

Both victims received “graze wounds,” according to the Prospect Heights Police Department. One victim was shot in the left forearm; the other was shot in the abdominal region and forearm. One victim was treated and released near the scene; the other was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, and is expected to recover fully.

A preliminary investigation by police indicated that earlier in the evening on Saturday, May 25, 2024, two adults (known gang associates) were in the area of the blocks of 500-800 Piper Lane in Prospect Heights. The two adults victims had been drinking alcoholic beverages.

One of the two adults began shouting negative statements about a local gang.

The negative comments about the gang were communicated to other gang members. Later, the two adults were approached by unknown gang members and told to leave the area or, “There will be problems.”

The two adults left the area of Apple Drive, which is west of the area where the shootings occurred. The adults were walking outside to the “Fry the Coop” restaurant parking lot, 580 N Milwaukee Ave, in Prospect Heights. The restaurant is located just south of the Holiday Inn Express.

Prospect Heights Police Department disclosed there were a total of four people at the scene in the line of fire when the shots were fired. Two of the four individuals were innocent, unrelated, out-of-state bystanders. By happenstance, the two out-of-state subjects met the two eventual gunshot victims while outside near Milwaukee Avenue. The victims offered to share some beer with them, and the two out-of-state subjects agreed, and followed them to the “Fry the Coop” restaurant parking lot.

The four individuals ran away from the shooter firing shots in their direction. The two individuals from the earlier interaction on Apple Drive were grazed by bullets. The other two individuals were not injured.

A bullet hole was also discovered in the door of a yellow car.

Police officers from Prospect Heights, Palatine Police K-9 unit, the Arlington Heights Police Department, and the Mount Prospect Police Department, and possibly other nearby police departments attempted to locate the offender, but did not find the shooter.
