Male with an Axe and Orange Flag Taken into Custody at Parking Garage at Alexian Brothers Medical Center

Elk Grove Village Police Officers were dispatched about 3:11 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2024 to a report of a male subject with an axe in the parking garage at Alexian Brothers Medical Center, 800 Biesterfield Road in Elk Grove Village, according to the Elk Grove Police Department.

Hospital security had observed a subject walking through the garage displaying an axe and a solid orange flag. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the subject on the 4th floor of the East garage and convinced him to put the axe down. Elk Grove Village police officers took him into custody without incident.

The subject was transported to an Alexian Brothers Medical Center facility and treated at the hospital, including a mental health evaluation. There were no injuries and there is no danger to the public, according to the Elk Grove Village Police Department.

The Elk Grove incident occurred the same day a male, who was immediately taken into custody by Schaumburg police officers, was threatening people while wearing a tactical vest and while armed with a knife at Woodfield Mall between 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
