A quote from State Representative Mark Walker posted Monday afternoon, March 11, 2024 in a WGN News video indicates that Mark Walker is looking forward to many interesting proposals to come to the future Arlington Park, including affordable housing and “welcoming centers for new arrivals.”

I look forward to the many interesting proposals to come on the future of Arlington Park like new business development, more affordable housing, or welcoming centers for new arrivals.”

— State Rep. Mark Walker

There has been a rumor circulating for several months that migrant welcoming centers are planned for the property at Arlington Park instead of a Chicago Bears stadium. This rumor seemed to have a little more credence following the quote from State Representative Mark Walker (D-Arlington Heights/53rd District). Notice the euphemism used by State Rep. Mark Walker for migrants — “new arrivals”.

“If they go forward with their lakefront plan, it’s our responsibility to make the best decision for Arlington Heights, Rolling Meadows, and our neighboring communities as well.

I look forward to the many interesting proposals to come on the future of Arlington Park like new business development, more affordable housing, or welcoming centers for new arrivals.”

— State Rep. Mark Walker

Walker didn’t indicate how a “welcoming center for new arrivals” in Arlington Heights near Rolling Meadows would benefit the existing citizens of these northwest suburban communities.

Arlington Park was rapidly demolished with few updates from the Village of Arlington Heights during the process at 2200 West Euclid Avenue. The official Village of Arlington Heights output was oddly quiet, reminding citizens it’s too early to come to conclusions about Arlington Park development. With the Chicago Bears new stadium a stated uncertainty, very little was officially discussed regarding options for the Arlington Park property.

According to WGN News, the Chicago Bears are prepared to make a massive commitment to building a domed lakefront stadium to replace Soldier Field that would be a top location to host the Super Bowl, the NCAA Final Four and other major events. According to multiple reports, including the Chicago Tribune, the Bears confirmed Monday they are planning to provide more than $2 billion in private funding to build a publicly-owned domed stadium and park space along the lakefront. “The Chicago Bears are proud to contribute over $2 billion to build a stadium and improve open spaces for all families, fans and the general public,” Bears President and CEO Kevin Warren said in a statement.
