A Joliet police officer on patrol at 2:06 a.m. Sunday, February 18, 2024 discovered a rollover traffic crash with injuries near Black Road and 129th Infantry Drive in Joliet. The Joliet Fire Department was notified and immediately responded to the scene. Firefighters and paramedics attempted to rescue and treat two adult crash victims in a Chevrolet Trailblazer, however both were pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics. The deaths of a male, age 65, and a female, age 59, were confirmed as on-scene deaths by the Will County Coroner’s Office.

Following a preliminary investigation of this crash, police investigators determined that a Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by a male, age 19 of Crest Hill, was northbound on 129th Infantry Drive approaching Black Road. As the Tahoe entered the intersection, it struck the driver’s side of a Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by the male, age 65 of Joliet. The male driver of the Chevy Trailblazer was westbound on Black Road at 129th Infantry Drive. The collision caused the Chevrolet Trailblazer to leave the roadway on the northwest corner of the intersection, striking a fire hydrant and overturning onto the passenger side of the SUV.

Immediately following the crash, the 19-year-old male driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe and an unknown male passenger ran from the crash scene. The driver was quickly stopped by police officers, but the male passenger was evaded capture by the police officers.

The intersection and nearby roadways were closed for several hours during the on-scene investigation at the crash scene, which was reconstructed by investigators, according to the Joliet Police Department.

Identification of the victims and manner of death will be determined by the Will County Coroner’s Office.

This crash remains under investigation by the Joliet Police Traffic Unit. Anyone with video or information regarding this crash is encouraged to contact the Traffic Unit at (815)724-3010.
