Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Des Plaines responded about 6:36 a.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2024 to a report of a bicyclist struck by a vehicle and unconscious about 100 yards west of the Golf Road entrance to The Monarch condominium complex. The location was also near the Des Plaines River Trail.
The Des Plaines Fire Department attempted lifesaving measures on the scene, and transported the victim to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. The man was pronounced dead a little over an hour later.
Police said the bicyclist was riding eastbound on Golf Road when he was struck by a 2017 Ford F250 that was being driven eastbound by a 40-year-old Des Plaines man. The crash was located in the eastbound lanes on the south side of Golf Road. The Des Plaines River Trail is located north of Golf Road — north of the westbound lanes.
The crash is under investigation, police investigators are asking that anyone who witnessed the crash contact the Des Plaines Police Department at 847-391-5400.
