Police, firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 10:51 a.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2023 to a report of a crash into the retail space at CFSC Currency Exchange at 118 East Wing Street near Egg Harbor in Arlington Heights. No pedestrians were inside the store when the crash occurred, and the driver was in good enough shape to refuse a trip to the hospital.

The driver of a white Toyota Corolla sedan accidentally drove through the glass and metal frame storefront, and completely entered the lobby area near the counter windows of the currency exchange business. The driver required extrication by firefighters because one of the damaged chrome or steel stanchions that were secured to the floor was obstructing the car door opening. The stanchions are used with ropes to form lines in front of the counter windows. Fortunately there were no customers inside the store at the time of the crash, and none of the employees inside were at risk when the crash occurred.

Also, another one of the stanchions was bent and broken and precariously close to the gas tank under the car, but there was no fuel leak. Firefighters needed to use a powered Hurst extrication tool to removed the damaged stanchions so that the car could be safely towed out of the interior space.

Firefighters attempted to cut down sharp edges, but warned the business that some sharp edges may exist among the damaged debris.

Several window signs, including a neon sign, were destroyed.

The female driver was assessed by paramedics, but refused EMS transport to the hospital because of little or no injury.

Hillside Towing removed the vehicle without incident.
