The Lake County Coroner’s Office released the identity of a Barrington High School girl that was accidentally hit and killed by a train as 17-year-old Marin Lacson from Barrington.

Identity Released of Barrington High School Student Struck, Killed by Metra Train Near Hough St, Barrington

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Barrington responded about 7:46 a.m. Thursday, January 25, 2024 to a report that a Metra train on the Union Pacific Northwest Line hit a pedestrian at the Hough Street crossing grade in Barrington.

Police, firefighters and paramedics received a report that a female victim had been struck by a train and appeared to be “beyond any help” located on the Metra tracks. There was initially some confusion that the incident occurred on the Canadian National tracks.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.




Barrington High School/District 220 Superintendent Craig Winkelman notified the community that a Barrington High School student was accidentally struck by a train near Route 59 (Hough Street) and Main Street and passed away.

the student was walking to school when the student was accidentally struck by a train on Route 59 and Main Street. The student’s family has been notified and is receiving support.

All roads were re-opened as of 11:00 AM Thursday, January 25, 2024, according to the Barrington Police Department.

There was also a disruption on the Metra UP Northwest line at 6:10 a.m. Thursday near the Arlington Park station when a Metra locomotive or train car was reported to be smoking. Officials and firefighters quickly determined there was no fire, but the train was evacuated and taken out of service. Train #610, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 6:46 a.m. was stopped near Arlington Park due to mechanical problems, according to Metra.
