Arlington Heights near downtown measured 1.0 inch of slush around 8:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Another 2.0 inches of snow accumulated Tuesday afternoon until about 6:00 p.m. Tuesday. Snow flurries continued late Tuesday night.
A Winter Storm Warning connected to a forecast of 7 to 8 inches of heavy, wet snow near Arlington Heights was fortunately a bust for most areas; however, Harvard, Plainfield, St. Charles, Lily Lake (west of St Charles, #1 with 7.5 in) and even parts of Schaumburg observed 6 inches or more of snow accumulation.

The CARDINAL NEWS snowfall forecast for Arlington Heights published 8 inches for a 33-hour period from Monday night to Wednesday. The meager start for the overnight Monday to Tuesday morning rendered 8 inches for that period impossible for Arlington Heights, which totaled about 3.0 inches for the almost 2-day period.
The low air temperature observed overnight Monday to Tuesday held above freezing at 33°F to 34°F from 10:00 p.m. Monday to 8:00 a.m. Tuesday, and then began to rise Tuesday morning before noon, which caused a short rainy period.
