Police and firefighters and paramedics from Las Vegas responded about 12:04 p.m. PST, Wednesday, December 6, 2023 to a report of an active shooter near Beam Hall (Frank and Estella Beam Hall) north of the intersection of University Road and Brussels Street in Las Vegas, Nevada. Las Vegas local time (PST) is two hours behind Chicago local time (CST).
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department announced the suspect is contained at 12:31 PM PST.
“This is an active investigation. Please continue to avoid the area and watch for responding emergency units.”

Local news media sources indicated the shooter is deceased. The Las Vegas Metro Police announced the suspect was located and deceased at 12:37 PM PST.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department initially announced that the police department was responding to preliminary reports of an Active Shooter on the campus of UNLV near BEAM Hall. There appears to be multiple victims at this time. Please avoid the area and we will have more information soon.
Student Cassidy Barton said she heard some shooting and initially went to a corner inside a room, and then evacuated. She said when she got the alerts, she wanted to know more about the situation. She and another students were in a ballroom that was surround by glass. Curtains were closed as part of the response to the mass shooter situation.
When Cassidy Barton evacuated the building, she saw shattered glass and the reality of the situation hit her.
