Extra Alarm House Fire Engulfs Garage and Part of House on Liberty Dr near Bartlett Rd in South Barrington

A fire that was first reported detected by a smoke alarm, and then discovered in an attached garage, caused extensive damage to a home Sunday night in South Barrington. Initially fire department communications on scene did not indicate there were any injuries.




Police from South Barrington, and firefighters and paramedics from Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District responded about 9:02 p.m. Sunday, December 3, 2023 to a report that a smoke detector was activated in the block of 0-99 Liberty Drive in South Barrington.

A minute later the homeowner called 9-1-1 again and reported that two vehicles were on fire in the garage. Since the fire was reported confirmed in an attached garage, the Battalion Chief upgraded the call to a Working Fire response while firefighters were responding to the scene.

Engine 37’s crew on arrival reported heavy fire showing from the garage — attached to a 2-story single-family residence. Command reported crews were beginning with a transitional attack. Engine 37 also reported some extension to the kitchen.

There was also an issued with a gas meter, and Nicor was requested to respond to the scene.




The fire was upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm (#38-2) at about 9:30 p.m. for a 3200 square-foot home with a fully-involved attached garage and extension to the rear of the home. Firefighters from Cook County, Lake County, McHenry County and Kane County responded to the scene.

Firefighters, paramedics, and/or command officers were assigned from Algonquin, Barrington, Bartlett, Carpentersville, Cary, Crystal Lake, Lake Zurich, McHenry, Mount Prospect, Palatine, Prospect Heights, Schaumburg, and Wauconda were assigned to the scene

Fox Lake and Huntley tenders were also on the scene.

Cary, East Dundee, Fox River Grove, Lake Zurich, and Long Grove firefighters and possibly Nunda Fire Protection District firefighters were already assigned at the Working Fire level response.

Firefighters, paramedics, and/or command officers from Deerfield, Streamwood, and Wheeling were assigned Change of Quarters to Barrington-Countryside Fire Protection District fire stations.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal was also requested to respond to the scene.

Bartlett Road was closed south of Penny Road in both directions during firefighting operations.
