McHenry County Multi-Jurisdictional SWAT Called In to Apprehend Suspect Armed with a Knife in Standoff on Briden Dr, Marengo

Marengo Police Officers were dispatched about 12:05 a.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2023 to a report of a disorderly subject that was yelling at his neighbor in the 1000 block of Briden Drive in Marengo. Officers arrived and attempted to make contact with the male subject. During that attempt, the male subject began making threats of bodily harm toward the caller and the officers on scene. At one point, the male subject appeared at the doorway, presented a knife while making threats, and continued to refuse officer’s commands. Deputies from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department and an officer from the Harvard Police Department arrived on scene to assist.

Ultimately, the McHenry County Multi-Jurisdictional S.W.A.T. team was activated and responded to assist. A short time later the male subject appeared at the apartment doorway displaying a firearm while continuing to make threats of harm to others. The surrounding apartments were evacuated. Shortly after, the male again came to the door and was taken into custody at approximately 3:30 a.m. without incident.

The male subject is identified as 46-year-old Jason Petty of 1020 Briden Drive, #6, Marengo. Jason Petty is charged with the following offenses:

Threatening a public official- Class 3 Felony

Aggravated assault of a peace officer – Class 4 Felony

Obstructing a peace officer (two counts) – Class A Misdemeanor

Jason Petty was detained at the McHenry County Jail at approximately 6:00 a.m. This case is still an active investigation.

The Marengo Police Department thanked the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the McHenry County Multi-Jurisdictional SWAT team, and the Harvard Police Department for their assistance with the successful resolution of this call.
