Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Buffalo Grove responded about, 9:03 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2023 to a report of a vehicle fire at Buffalo Grove Road and Dundee Road, but they soon found out that the emergency call was a head-on crash with a vehicle fire. The crash scene was further south from Dundee Road at Buffalo Grove Road and Park Place in unincorporated Cook County between Buffalo Grove and Wheeling.
Cook County Sheriff’s Deputies discovered a head-on crash involving a large pickup truck and a small car. The car was fully engulfed in flames. Although both vehicles were severely damaged, all three occupants walked away. One person was transported by Buffalo Grove Fire Department paramedics to Northwest Community Hospital with injuries initially believed to be non-life-threatening. The other two crash victims refused EMS transport. Initially it was unknown which vehicle had two occupants.
The crash occurred in the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District. Firefighters and paramedics from Buffalo Grove, Prospect Heights, and Wheeling were on the scene. The area did not have a nearby fire hydrant. A tender or water tanker truck was dispatched from Prospect Heights Fire Protection District.
Cook County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the crash. The head-on crash may have involved an impaired driver traveling on the wrong side of Buffalo Grove Road. There is also an S-curve where the crash occurred.
