Additional details were provided in a press conference Saturday morning, October 28, 2023, regarding the death of mass shooter Robert Card, who was found dead in a trailer in an overflow parking lot at the recycling center where he worked — the Maine Recycling Corporation, 61 Capital Avenue in Lisbon Falls, Maine. He was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound with weapons near him. The Maine State Police tactical team ultimately discovered Robert Card’s body on a property that had been previously searched in some other locations of the property.

Commissioner Mike Sauschuck, Department of Public Safety for the State of Maine was the only speaker at the press conference.

A Family Assistance center designed as a one-stop center for specific victims and victims’ families that were closely connected to the shooting scene, are getting assistance from multiple agencies in one location at the Lewiston Memorial Armory, 65 Central Avenue in Lewiston. A mental health support center was also established at the Ramada Inn for the larger community indirectly affected by the mass shooting scenes.

A paper note was found in Robert Card’s residence that contained bank account information and a password to Robert Card’s phone was described. The “tone and tenor” of the note was that the individual “was not going to be around.”

A long gun firearm was found in the white Subaru (found earlier), according to Commissioner Mike Sauschuck, Department of Public Safety for the State of Maine.

Regarding a motive, there is a mental component to this case. No evidence of a history of forcible mental health commitment has been found for Robert Card, according to Commissioner Mike Sauschuck.

The family of Robert Card was incredibly helpful, according to Commissioner Mike Sauschuck. The first three people that called police, based on released photos of the suspect, were members of Robert Card’s family.
