Fatal Crash into a Utility Pole on Oakton St Near Clifton Ave in Park Ridge

Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Park Ridge responded about 2:42 a.m. Tuesday, October 3, 2023 to a report of a vehicle crash into a utility pole in the block of 900 Oakton Street in Park Ridge.




Police, firefighters, and paramedics on arrival reported one vehicle with heavy damage that was possibly involved in a rollover. An extrication response was activated by 2:45 a.m. A Niles Battalion Chief and additional Park Ridge crews were assigned to the scene.

The initial crews on the scene discovered that the sole crash victim inside a black car was deceased, and called off the extrication response.




There were no active power outages in the area reported by ComEd at 7:00 a.m. Tuesday. Several utility poles were knocked down from the crash, and one was sheared completely at the base with the pole suspended in the air as it was still attached to power lines.

Oakton Street remained closed between Greenwood Road and Cumberland Avenue as of 7:15 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Today’s crash marks the second crash within a year in the neighborhood, since an elderly couple were killed when they were traveling in a car that crashed into the front of a house on the south side of Oakton Street. The vehicle was southbound on Cumberland Avenue at a speed of around 100 MPH before the crash that occurred on November 8, 2023..

Today’s crash caused damage on the north side of Oakton Street near Clifton Avenue, which is the next parallel street west of Cumberland Avenue in Park Ridge. The Park Ridge border with Niles is located nearby along Cumberland Avenue and east on Oakton Street.
