The husband of a woman found dead Monday, September 18, 2023 at the intersection of Dundee Road and Guthrie Drive — the entrance to the Inverness Hills neighborhood in Inverness — has been charged with Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Crash, according the Inverness Police Department.

Ivan Muryn, age 28, of Palatine, faces one count of leaving the scene of a fatal crash. The case involves investigation of a pedestrian/vehicle incident that is connected to the death of Alona Muryn, age 29, of Brooklyn, New York. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has not indicated a cause of death (pending) — and specifically has not yet indicated that the cause of death is trauma from injuries suffered from a fall or contact with a vehicle.

Police officers from Inverness and firefighters and paramedics from the Inverness Fire Protection District responded about 1:28 a.m. Monday, September 18, 2023 after multiple 9-1-1 callers reported that a woman was found unresponsive in the roadway at Dundee Road and Guthrie Drive in Inverness. Police and paramedics found the woman deceased at the scene on the eastbound side of Dundee Road near the Guthrie Drive Inverness Hills entrance sign where a device that appears to be a security camera is located.

The woman was wearing light pants and a sports bra — possibly gray in color.

Inverness police revealed Wednesday that an investigation indicated the couple had been arguing in a vehicle driven by Ivan Muryn early Monday. During the argument, Alona Muryn removed her seat belt, opened the front passenger door, and fell out of the vehicle. She was then struck by the vehicle, according to the Inverness Police Department.

Ivan Muryn allegedly briefly stopped and checked the scene before leaving without notifying police or calling for assistance, according to the Inverness Police Department.

Also, according to the Inverness Police Department, police officers were responding to a well-being check near the intersection of Dundee Road and Guthrie Drive at about 1:23 a.m. Monday, and discovered the woman’s body.

Ivan Muryn surrendered to Palatine police later during the day on Monday, September 18, 2023. Ivan Muryn was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning, September 20, 2023 for a bond hearing.

MCAT-STAR investigators and/or MCAT forensic investigators were on the scene investigating the case until about 8:20 a.m. Monday.

Dundee Road was closed in both directions for over six hours. The closure disrupted school traffic, including school bus routes, Monday morning.

Palatine and Barrington Police officers assisted with the closure of Dundee Road — Barrington police officers at the Barrington Middle School Prairie Campus east driveway location, and Palatine police officers at Ela Road location.
