Police, firefighters and paramedics from Buffalo Grove responded about 7:28 a.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2023 to a report of a crash with injuries involving a a passenger vehicle and a child bicyclist on Weiland Road north of Newtown Drive in Buffalo Grove.
Police, firefighters, and paramedics discovered the crash was located at the crosswalk between Highland Point Park and Parkchester Park.
The child was transported by Buffalo Grove Fire Department paramedics to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with injuries initially believed to be life-threatening.
Lake County MCAT investigators were assigned to the scene for an extended crash investigation. The crash occurred near a highly visible, electronically-signaled crosswalk. Initially, it was not known whether the bicyclist was attempting to use the crosswalk.
A gray Toyota Corolla with windshield damage and hood damage was located just north of the crosswalk in the right northbound lane of Weiland Road. A bicycle was located nearby in the parkway. The Speed Limit is 40 MPH on Weiland Road near the crash scene. Weiland Road is a 4-lane roadway with a curbed shoulder and parkway, and a curbed median parkway.
