Four Hurt in Head-on, Rollover Crash on Rand Rd South of Miller Rd Lake Zurich

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Lake Zurich responded about 10:50 p.m. Monday, August 14, 2023 to a report of a head-on crash with injuries on Rand Road near Miller Road (Lake County A42) in Lake Zurich. Police, firefighters and paramedics received a report that four vehicles were involved in the crash at the border of Lake Zurich and unincorporated Ela Township.

Police upon arrival first reported an unresponsive driver in a work van. A second ambulance was assigned by 10:56 p.m. Police shut down Rand Road in both directions between Old Rand Road and Miller Road. The crash was located in the northbound lanes just south of Miller Road with four vehicles involved, and one vehicle on its side.




The work van driver, who crossed the center line of Route 12 (Rand Road) was seriously injured. He was transported with injuries initially believed to be non-life-threatening.

A third ambulance was assigned by 11:01 p.m. A fourth ambulance was assigned by 11:28 p.m. In addition to the driver of the work van, two adults and a child were transported to hospitals. Two patients refused paramedic ambulance transport, for a total of six patients assessed by paramedics and four patients transported. Two patients were transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

A Barrington ambulance stood by in a Lake Zurich fire station for Lake Zurich fire district coverage.

Lake Zurich Police Department investigated the crash scene, and is continuing to investigate the crash. The Speed Limit for the southbound lanes of Rand Road (US-12 EAST) at Bailey Lane, north of the Miller Road changes from 55 MPH to 50 MPH. The northbound lanes of Rand Road change from 50 MPH to 55 MPH at Bailey Lane in Ela Township.
