Fire in the Wood Shop

A fire broke out inside Glenbrook South High School on Thursday, causing the school to tell people to stay away from the north suburban campus. Video obtained by CBS 2 shows huge flames in what appears to be the school’s wood shop (Jermont Terry/CBS Chicago). YouTube Tips ⓘ

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Glenview responded about 3:07 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2023 to an activated fire alarm and report of a fire in the wood shop at Glenbrook High Schoo, 4000 West Lake Avenue in Glenview.

The fire and location in the wood shop was confirmed by the school’s Special Resource Office before firefighters arrived.

The fire was upgraded to a confirmed fire by 3:12 p.m. and firefighters from Engine 8’s crew had water on the fire by 3:17 p.m.

Flames were visible inside the wood shop, and significant smoke was visible outside of the school.

MABAS MVU-1 (Mobile Ventilation Unit from MABAS Division 1) was assigned at about 3:55 p.m. to ventilate the school after the fire was extinguished.

The State of Illinois Fire Marshal was assigned to the scene.

The Glenview Police Department confirmed by 3:53 p.m. that there was a fire at Glenbrook South High School, and that injuries were reported and that there were no medical transports.

Glenbrook South High School on Twitter confirmed that a fire was detected at Glenbrook South and that the alarm is activated.

All students requiring bus services were advised to report to the stadium parking lot for pick-up. Students walking/being picked up are free to leave campus. The building will be locked until cleared by the fire department. All items will remain where students left them.

At 3:30 p.m. Glenbrook South High School advised that the campus remains locked and that people should refrain from coming to the campus. No one is allowed into the building until the all-clear is given, according to Glenbrook South High School.

Glenbrook South High School also advised that no injuries were reported.
