Palatine Resident Charged with Aggravated DUI After Rear-End Crash with School Bus on Roselle Rd

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Palatine responded about 3:21 p.m. Thursday, April 6, 2023 to a report of a crash involving a school bus at Roselle Road and St. James Court in in Palatine. The school bus was occupied by 56 students, who were assessed by paramedics as part of school policy regarding school bus crashes.

The school bus was northbound on Roselle Road was allegedly rear-end by another vehicle. Firefighters and paramedics on arrival reported minor damage.




Investigation by Palatine police officers indicated that the driver of the vehicle struck that the school bus may have been under the influence of alcohol. Police, firefighters and paramedics confirmed that there were no injuries reported by occupants of the school bus.

Palatine police officers arrested and charged 62-year-old Gregory A. Wells of the block of 900 North Maple Avenue in Palatine. Wells was charged with Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, having had more than three previous DUI violations (a Class 4 Felony), illegal transportation of alcohol, and several other traffic citations related to the crash.

Wells was transported to the Cook County 3rd District Courthouse in Rolling Meadows where his bond was set at $10,000 (10% applies). His next court date is scheduled for Monday, May 1, 2023 at 10:30 AM in Room 108 in the Rolling Meadows courthouse.
