Police from Buffalo Grove, and firefighters and paramedics from Buffalo Grove and Arlington Heights responded about 7:48 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2023 to a report of an injured pedestrian hit by a vehicle in the block of 400 South Buffalo Grove Road in Buffalo Grove. Paramedics received a report that CPR was being administered before they arrived.

Fire department paramedics from Arlington Heights and Buffalo Grove administered CPR and Advanced Life Support, and transported the victim to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, where the victim was pronounced dead.

The pedestrian was identified as Alex Gorn, age 81, of Old Oak Drive in Buffalo Grove — just south of the scene.

A second ambulance with Buffalo Grove firefighter/paramedics was assigned to the scene about 8:36 p.m. for the victim’s wife, who was not feeling well at the scene.

Members of the Buffalo Grove Police Department Traffic Unit and investigators with the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) were assigned to investigate the crash. The crash scene was located in Cook County, but Lake County MCAT frequently works with Buffalo Grove, which is located in Cook County and Lake County.

The details of the fatal crash are being investigated, but Alex Gorn apparently parked his vehicle on the concrete or asphalt median of Buffalo Grove Road, and got out of his vehicle to check a snowblower that was placed at the curb in front of a residence in the block of 400 South Buffalo Grove Road. He was struck by a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado in the southbound lanes of Buffalo Grove Road while the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was traveling southbound. The driver of the Chevy Silverado stopped and remained at the scene, which was located just north of Golfview Terrace.

Buffalo Grove Road is a four-lane roadway with an asphalt or concrete curbed median that is about 16-feet wide. The Speed Limit on Buffalo Grove is 35 MPH according to images on Google Map Street View captured in Augusts 2022.

Buffalo Grove Road was closed between Golfview Terrace and Bernard Drive during the on-scene investigation. Buffalo Grove Road was re-opened by about 11:45 p.m. Saturday.
