Driver Arrested Suspected of DUI After Vehicle Fire on Rand Rd, Arlington Heights

Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 12:42 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2023 to a report of a vehicle fire on Rand Road west of Arlington Heights. Police were first on the scene, and reported the car was fully-engulfed.




The fire was declared out by about 1:04 a.m. An ambulance was dispatched to the scene about 12:59 a.m. The driver had walked over near The Room Place, 40 East Rand Road, where police found him, and requested paramedics to respond to assess his condition. The driver was not transported by paramedics, but was arrested suspected of DUI. He was transported to Arlington Heights Police Department headquarters, and was released to friends or family members on a recognizance bond (unknown amount).

It is unknown if he fell asleep with his feet on the accelerator and brake pedal, or whether he made some other vehicle operator error that may have caused a vehicle fire. Initially, the cause of the fire was not available.
