First installment Tax Year 2022 Cook County property tax bills will be mailed out in late February or early March 2023, but property owners will have an extra month to pay their first installment of taxes in 2023.
The new due date for the first due date of property tax bills is April 3, 2023 — a one-month extension of the expected due date of March 1, 2023, according to an Office of the Cook County Treasurer announcement Wednesday, January 4, 2023.
The extension comes after many Cook County 2021 tax bills (as normally billed in 2022) arrived late in 2022. Property owners were required to pay the Second Installment of their Cook County property taxes by Friday, December 30, 2022, to avoid late charges imposed by state law — about $50 extra.
